Resgen Case study

Double Garage Screed & Resin Flooring Transformation, Farnham

Project Snapshot:

  • Location: Farnham, Surrey

  • Property type: Residential double garage

  • System installed: Screeding + Nightfall decorative flake resin flooring + dark grey MMA threshold

  • Floor area: Approx. 30m²

  • Completion time: 3 days

  • Client: Private homeowner

The challenge

Unlike many resin flooring projects, this garage couldn’t simply be prepared and coated. The existing floor was uneven and lacked a suitable, level substrate for a resin system to be installed directly on top. Before any decorative work could begin, the floor needed a new screed to bring it up to a consistent, level standard.

The customer wanted a floor that would end up looking clean and professional despite this extra complication, without it turning into a drawn-out job.

The solution

We proposed a two-stage solution: install a new screed to create a level, stable base, then finish with our Nightfall decorative flake system — a darker-toned flake blend that suits garage and workshop spaces particularly well, giving a smart, contemporary look that also hides everyday marks and dust.

To finish the job properly, we included a dark grey MMA threshold at the garage entrance, tying the whole installation together with a clean, defined edge.

The Finishing Detail: A Dark Grey MMA Threshold

Garage floor projects don’t always end at the resin itself, and this one was a good example. To complete the job, we installed a bespoke MMA (methyl methacrylate) threshold at the garage entrance, a fast-curing, highly durable material well suited to transition points that take a lot of wear, like the edge where a garage floor meets the outside.

Finished in dark grey to complement the Nightfall flake’s tones, the threshold gives the installation a clean, defined edge rather than a rough or mismatched transition. It’s a small detail, but one that makes the difference between a floor that looks finished and one that looks like it’s missing a step.

The process

  • 1. Screeding

A new screed was installed across the full floor area, creating the level, uniform substrate the resin system needed. This stage had to cure fully before any further work could begin.

  • 2. Substrate preparation

Once cured, the screed was mechanically prepared to create the correct surface profile for the resin to bond effectively. It’s the same attention to prep we give every job, just applied to a freshly laid surface rather than old concrete.

  • 3. Basecoat & flake broadcast

A resin basecoat was applied, followed by the Nightfall decorative flakes, broadcast across the surface for an even, multi-tonal finish.

  • 4. Protective topcoat

A durable topcoat was applied to encapsulate the flakes and seal the floor, giving it its hard-wearing, easy-clean surface.

  • 5. MMA threshold installation

A dark grey MMA threshold was installed at the garage entrance, creating a durable, smart transition between the new resin floor and the exterior.
